About Mangan Contracting PTY LTD
John and Lyn Mangan took over the running of John's father's pig farm in 2000. This was at a time when pig prices started to crash and the drought started to affect profits, and they needed to look for work off farm to subsidise living costs. They decided to lease their land to DPI Hardwoods to grow trees. With John's experience in cutting and logging timber, he decided to increase his work with FPQ (formerly DPI hardwoods). He started as an individual, then employed one staff member, followed by a few more, and so on. They have since grown into a trust company employing up to 20 people throughout the year.
John the Director, has had extensive experience in the timber industry as he began (like his father and uncles before him) as a timber cutter in the area around the South Burnett. He went on to work as a skid steer logging machine which carried the cut logs out of some treacherous pieces of landscape. Now John and Lynn are helping to grow timber at the other end of the spectrum, by leasing their land to FPQ Hardwoods Pty Ltd for them to grow hardwoods on their land, and also contract their services out to others who wish to do the same.
